Why I love my 1931 Model A, the first car I every drove. Why I love my 1931 Model A
In the family for 76 years.
My 1931 early Model A station wagon was my grandfather's car. He bought it in 1932 from the owner of the Draper Company in Hopedale, MA. He used it to drive to his summer cottage on North Pond in Upton five miles away. Fortunately, he keep it in a garage most of the time.
When I was 16, my father and I partially restored the “Jitterbug”. I would sometimes drive it to High School. I drove it in my wedding in 1973. In 1995 my son, Mike, and I started an off the frame restoration but stopped when he left for the Coast Guard.
However, not until I met Jim Briggs at our Bible Study, in 2000, who shared his passion for restoring Model A’s car, did I renew the project. Suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, Jim had time to help me.
Now after 70 years it is still a joy to drive and it is remembrance to of some fun times and great friends.
There are still a few things still to do. It is great hobby.
