Why I love my home!

Unit 66 at River Ridge, 400 Colonial Drive in Ipswich, is ideally set on property surrounded by rolling lawns and large oak trees. The view is not of other buildings or parking lots, but of trees, lawns and the church spires in the distance atop Meeting House Hill in downtown historic Ipswich.

This is a bright and sunny corner unit with an eastern and southern exposure. During winter months, the open floor plan is enhanced by sunlight throughout and additional warmth. In summer the trees provide a delicate shade. As an end unit, this condo benefits from cross breezes from the nearby ocean and soothing coolness during the summer, with the option of not having to run the air conditioning just to circulate the air.

Visitors repeatedly comment on how quiet it is. As an end unit, it is peaceful and tranquil. The master bedroom is advantageously situated on the upper level corner – quiet, sunny, and full of summer cross breezes. A large walk-in closet makes a wonderful dressing room. A finished loft area is a perfect place for an “away” room and retreat from the rest of the condo.

The unit is spacious and comfortable, whether for a small dinner party of 6, or a buffet of 20. The kitchen is a chef's delight, with numerous cabinets and abundant counter space. The kitchen greenhouse window catches the morning sun. Plants adore this and thrive here as well as any other place in the cheerful unit.

Storage and closets are abundant. In addition to the 2 large bedroom closets, it is convenient to have linen closets on both the main and bedroom levels. The washer and drier and located on the upper bedroom level, are extremely convenient to clothing and bath areas. One does not have to carry dirty laundry down to a laundry area. A pull-down ladder provides access to attic storage. This space can also be accessed through the loft area. The condo also has a locked individual storage area in the basement which is perfect for out of season gardening items to Christmas trees and skis.

There are two decks, one off the living room and one off the master bedroom. Both provide a special outdoor place for retreat, and also for container gardening. The living room area, with summer breezes, gentle shade, and plants on the deck makes for an almost outdoor sense of living. The condo complex has a large outdoor pool which is enjoyable and convenient for the residents. The clubhouse can be reserved by residents and is wonderful for larger gatherings – parties or even holiday family dinners. It is equipped with a spacious kitchen and overlooks the pool.

The carport provides shelter from the worst of winter, and also the heat of summer.

River Ridge is close enough to walk to the commuter train station and the downtown area of Ipswich. For a small town, there is the convenience of being able to shop, dine, attend cultural events, and frequent Crane Beach (with an inexpensive yearly beach pass for town residents). The commuter rail made it easy to work in the city and yet live in a small, historic seaside town.
